Lagos State Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat has criticized Nigerian youths for what he describes as a tendency to “waste time on frivolities.”
He then urged them to focus on informative articles and educational videos that offer tangible solutions to real-world problems.
Mr Hamzat gave the advice at a youth seminar organised by the Ministry of Youth And Social Development in commemoration of the International Youth Day Celebration on Thursday at Alausa, Ikeja.
The Lagos deputy governor emphasised the importance of reading and learning from books and embracing digital technology to drive personal growth, state development, and national progress.
“Stop wasting your time on frivolities. Rather, focus on practical things. Always read well-equipped books that can be useful to you and will change your lives for the better, as reading books will keep you informed and more educated,” Mr Hamzat said.
The Lagos deputy governor urged young people to utilize digitalization to effect positive change and address intricate challenges.
Mr. Hamzat also pointed out that technology is transforming into a global village, offering individuals the chance to drive progress and development.
He explained that traditional education, confined to classroom settings, no longer equips individuals with the thorough preparation needed to succeed and make a meaningful impact in a world increasingly influenced by technological progress.
Additionally, he emphasized that they should not limit their internet use to TikTok videos and Instagram reels but should focus on studying subjects that will genuinely benefit them.
