Since You Entered APC, You’ve Abandoned All Projects in Enugu — Residents Cry Out Against Peter Mbah

Enugu residents have accused Governor Peter Mbah of abandoning road projects across the state since joining the All Progressives Congress (APC), raising fresh concerns about stalled governance.

The outcry followed a viral post on Friday by social media commentator Kelvin Onovo, who said multiple projects had been deserted in Trans-Ekulu, Maryland, Ologo and his village.

Onovo declared that he had remained silent for too long but could no longer ignore the condition of the roads, writing, “They say a closed mouth is a closed destiny, so let me talk.”

He lamented that projects flagged off earlier in the year had been left unattended despite the end of the rainy season and noted, “The road project that started in my area has been abandoned.”

According to him, similar projects in other parts of the state have suffered the same fate, including those in Maryland and Ologo, which he described as “abandoned.”

Onovo argued that the situation deteriorated after Mbah joined the APC, remarking, “Since you moved to APC, it feels like another person is running Enugu.”

He criticised what he called the governor’s narrow focus on entertainment-related activities while essential governance remained stagnant, adding, “It’s as if we don’t even have a governor again.”

The commentator expressed frustration that a road flagged off on 18 March 2025 remained untouched, saying he now found himself “practically begging for the completion of a road you flagged off.”

He reminded the governor that he runs his business in the area and pays taxes, maintaining that residents have endured the poor roads daily.

With the rains now over, Onovo insisted the government had run out of excuses, noting simply, “Rain has stopped,” before appealing, “Please fix our roads.”

He concluded that the enthusiasm many residents felt when Mbah assumed office had now faded, stating, “Enugu people deserve better.”

His post drew widespread support from residents who reported similar experiences in their neighbourhoods.

A user identified as Belugo said contractors had deserted his area for months, adding, “I’ve built a culvert for my gate.”

He questioned the governor’s presence in the state, remarking, “I don’t even know whether @PNMbah still lives in Enugu since he joined APC.”

Another resident, oGee, described daily traffic and road conditions as “frustrating” and admitted he sometimes feels like relocating from Trans-Ekulu.

Several commenters argued that Enugu had become less vibrant since the governor’s political alignment shifted, with one user, Skotish, saying, “Enugu is slowly not being active like before.”

Others pointed to long-standing roads that have been ignored over the years, including Daniel Ezike, who referenced Alulu-Nike Road, calling its neglect “more than 8 years now.”

Additional complaints highlighted similar abandonment along the Abakpa-Ugwogo-Opi axis, worsening concerns about the state of infrastructure across Enugu.

A user, William Chijioke, accused the governor of losing interest in residents’ welfare after joining the APC, remarking that he may no longer need the electorate ahead of 2027.

Another commenter, Ifesinachi Nwanga, summed up public frustration with the remark, “APC is not a good party.”

The backlash comes amid broader public frustration over governance nationwide, with many Nigerians expressing renewed distrust for political leaders from Lagos to Enugu.
