Gov Yusuf Addresses Kano Citizens, Promises To Restore ‘Stolen Mandate’

Abba Kabir Yusuf, the governor of Kano State, has promised to restore the mandate the people of the state gave him at the March 18 governorship election.

Yusuf spoke in a statewide broadcast on Wednesday night, just hours after the Kano State Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal ruled that Nasir Gawuna of the All Progressives Congress (APC) was the real winner of the election and fired him as governor of the state.

The governor told the people of the state to stay cool and follow the rules. He told them not to break the law.

While assuring the people of the state that the Tribunal’s decision, which he said was full of mistakes and wrong interpretations of the law, would not bring down the spirit of his government, he added that he would keep doing all the good things he had told them.

“You may also remember that the party that didn’t win the election sued us.

“However, after almost six months of hearings, the Governorship Petition Tribunal Judges have made their own decisions today, September 20, 2023, in their own wisdom.

“As people, they may not always make the best decisions. Our legal team says that there are mistakes and wrong ways to use the law.

“This is the main reason why our Constitution gives us the Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court.

“In light of this, we have already told our law team to file an appeal as soon as possible so that the good people of Kano State who voted for us can get justice.

“So, I’d like to ask all the good people of Kano State to stay cool and follow the law. No one should try to make the law work for them.

“Security agents have been told to make sure that the lives and property of innocent people across the state are fully protected.

“Let me promise you that this government will keep working for the growth of our state, just like we said we would when we were campaigning for your votes.

“We want you to know that this won’t bring us down or slow us down in any way. This is a short-term setback for our country, but by the kindness of God (SWT), it will be over soon.

Governor Yusuf said, “I want to thank the people of Kano State for their continued support. I also want to use this chance to ask them to keep going about their business peacefully, knowing that we will get justice at the appeals court and the will of the good people will be restored and respected, Insha Allah.”
