In response to the escalating security concerns, the Zamfara State Government has taken decisive actions to curb nefarious activities in the region.
During a recent state security council meeting at the Government House in Gusau, the Council announced a ban on the sale of fuel in jerry cans and loaves of bread to motorists and motorcycle riders.
The Zamfara Commissioner of Information and Culture, Mannir Muazu Haidara, highlighted the alarming practices of some filling stations, bakeries, and bread sellers in rural areas allegedly providing fuel and bread to suspected armed bandits. The council urged these establishments to cease such activities immediately.
“The Council observed with dismay the attitudes of some filling stations, bakeries, and bread sellers in some rural areas of the state who are using vehicles and motorcycles to sell petroleum products and loaves of bread to some allegedly suspected armed bandits; we advised them to desist from the acts,” Haidara stated.
Furthermore, the council imposed restrictions on the use of tinted glass, covering of plate number, and the use of sirens on unauthorized vehicles. Security agencies have been directed to arrest and prosecute offenders engaging in these practices.
Haidara emphasised the importance of vehicle registration, urging motorists to promptly register their vehicles’ plate numbers with relevant government bodies. Non-compliance will result in arrests and prosecutions, as mandated by the council in collaboration with security agencies.
In a positive development, security agencies have successfully recovered cattle from bandits. Citizens whose cattle were rustled are encouraged to come forward with supporting evidence to reclaim their animals after completing the due process.
