In a significant move to address the ongoing food crisis and prevent smuggling, Zamfara State Transport Agency intercepted 50 trucks loaded with assorted grains en route to Niger Republic.
The interception occurred near Nigerian border with Niger Republic, specifically in Gidan Jaja village.
Confirming the incident, Sale Shinkafi, the spokesperson for Zamfara State Transport Agency (ZARTO), stated that the trucks were halted and their owners were directed to return to their respective localities.
The agency instructed them to sell the commodities at affordable prices within Nigeria, aligning with the recent directive from Chief Bola Tinubu urging state governors to take measures to address food shortages and hoarding in the country.
This interception is part of broader efforts to tackle challenges in the agricultural sector, exacerbated by the fuel subsidy removal, which has increased insecurity issues affecting farmers across various regions.
