NUC Identifies 37 Illegal Universities in Nigeria, Urges Vigilance from Parents

Acting Secretary of the National Universities Commission (NUC) Chris Maiyaki has announced the identification of 37 illegal universities currently operating in Nigeria.

Maiyaki disclosed that the Department of State Services (DSS) has been actively involved in arresting individuals associated with these illicit institutions.

Emphasizing the seriousness of the matter, Maiyaki urged parents to visit the commission’s website to verify the legitimacy of universities in Nigeria. He highlighted the potential risks of students becoming victims of these illegal establishments.

This disclosure comes on the heels of the suspension of degree certificates from two francophone West African countries.

The move followed an undercover journalist’s exposé, revealing how he acquired a degree from a university in Benin Republic within two months and subsequently deployed for the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).
