“It’s Absolute Nonsense to Say I Betrayed Atiku,” Bwala Responds to Criticism After Visit to Tinubu

Daniel Bwala, the former spokesperson for Atiku Abubakar, the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) presidential candidate in the 2023 election, has responded to backlash following his meeting with Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the Presidential Villa.

Bwala, a lawyer, faced criticism from PDP supporters and defended his actions, dismissing accusations of betrayal.

In an interview with Channels Television, Bwala expressed his frustration, stating, “It’s absolute nonsense for somebody to say because I said I would support President Bola Tinubu; therefore, I betrayed Atiku.”

He further disclosed that he informed Atiku of his meeting with Tinubu.

His words, “I informed Atiku Abubakar I was going to see the president. After I had seen the president, I informed him (Atiku) that I had just seen the president, and he replied to me, ‘Thanks, Daniel, for notifying me.”

Bwala’s journey took a turn in July 2022 when, as a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), he left the party after disagreement with Tinubu’s choice of Kashim Shettima as running mate.

Bwala, who criticized Tinubu for selecting a Muslim running mate, then joined Atiku’s campaign, citing Atiku’s choice of a Christian running mate, Ifeanyi Okowa, former Delta governor.
