Terrorists

Terrorists have killed a Divisional Crime Officer (DCO) in charge of Zurmi Local Government Area of Zamfara State and set fire to the police station.

An eyewitness, Mohammed Ibrahim, reported that the terrorists, who were in large numbers and armed with sophisticated weapons, invaded Zurmi town, the headquarters of Zurmi LGA, around 5 pm on Sunday.

Ibrahim stated that the bandits entered Zurmi town and proceeded straight to the police station, where they started firing intermittently, killing the DCO and wounding other police officers before setting the station on fire.

Giving reasons for the invasion, Ibrahim said, “The vigilante group went to the forest with the police and attacked their camp, where they killed three of the terrorists and captured one of them.

“For this, the terrorists mobilized themselves in large numbers and headed to the police station in Zurmi, thinking that their partner, whom the vigilantes and the police captured, was in the custody of the police.

“When they arrived at the police station, they opened fire, killing the DCO and injuring other policemen.

“They looked for their partner but could not see him; as such, they set the police station on fire,” he narrated.
