Kidnappers of Dr. Tony Aziegbemi, the Edo State chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), have demanded a ransom of N500 million for his release.
A family source, who chose to remain anonymous, disclosed that the demand was made eight days after Aziegbemi was abducted.
According to reports, the kidnappers contacted the family directly to communicate their demand. However, the police spokesperson in Edo State, SP Chidi Nwabuzor, stated that the police were not aware of any ransom demand.
“I am not aware of any ransom demand. I can only confirm what I am aware of,” he affirmed.
Despite the lack of confirmation from the police, a family member identified as Sam Ogbeiye urged security agencies to intensify efforts to ensure Aziegbemi’s safe and prompt release.
