Don’t Employ Any ‘Idiot’ Foreign Coach for Super Eagles, Give Nigerian Coaches a Chance — Airpeace CEO, Onyema Warns NFF

The Chief Executive Officer of Airpeace, Allen Onyema, has vehemently opposed the Nigeria Football Federation’s (NFF) potential decision to appoint another foreign coach to lead the national team, the Super Eagles.

The Super Eagles have been without a head coach since Jose Peseiro’s contract expired in February. Currently, former international player Finidi George has been appointed as the interim coach for the team’s upcoming friendly matches against Ghana and Mali.

Expressing his disapproval, Onyema stressed the importance of considering local candidates for the coaching position. He cited past successes of Nigerian coaches, including Eguavoen, and emphasized that Nigerian coaches often do not receive fair recognition for their achievements.

Onyema told City People Online, “I don’t see the reason why we cannot have a look into the country and get somebody out there that will take on the Super Eagles. As far as I am concerned, Eguavoen succeeded to some level.

“A lot of them succeeded. The truth is that when a foreign coach bows out from the group stage, nobody talks; when a Nigerian coach bows out from Quarterfinals or semi-finals, oh, if it had been a foreign coach, we would have won the cup.

“Nobody gives Nigerian coaches a chance. Nigerians should rise up against any NFF that goes again to get any idiot as a foreign coach,” he added.
