Five people were gruesomely murdered by gunmen in Ayilamo, a village in the Logo Local Government of Benue State, on Tuesday night. Several others sustained injuries in the attack.
The assailants stormed the village and opened fire indiscriminately, causing panic and chaos among the residents. The injured have been rushed to nearby hospitals for treatment.
Sewuese Anene, the spokesperson for the Police Command in the north-central state, confirmed that the attack took place on Tuesday night. “There were a few others who were injured,” added Anene.
She also mentioned another assault in the Mbachohon community in Gwer-West Local Government. However, she stated that information regarding this incident is currently unavailable. There are unverified reports suggesting that six individuals lost their lives in the Mbachohon attack.
Anene expressed regret over the incidents and informed the News Agency of Nigeria that additional security personnel are being dispatched to the affected areas to reestablish peace.
