A father, identified as Nnajiofor Nweke, has been arrested by the police in Delta State for allegedly causing the death of a teacher at Alihami Secondary School in Agbor, Ika North East local government area of the state.
According to DSP Bright Edafe, the spokesman of the command, the incident occurred on Wednesday, October 18, 2023, when Nweke’s son and some other students stole two kegs of palm wine from a nearby shop and were reported to the school authorities.
The students were subjected to corporal punishment as a disciplinary measure, which angered Nweke. He stormed the school premises with a cane and started flogging the teachers indiscriminately.
One of the teachers, whose name was not disclosed, slumped and died on the spot. Nweke was apprehended by the police and taken to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation.
Edafe condemned the act of Nweke, saying that it was a case of “failed parenting” that turned into a murder case. He urged parents to be more responsible and supportive of their children’s education. He also expressed his condolences to the family of the deceased teacher and assured them that justice would be served.
