Lucky Aiyedatiwa, the governor of Ondo State, has nominated Olayide Adelami, a former deputy clerk of the national assembly, as the deputy governor of the state.
The nomination of Adelami came a few hours after Aiyedatiwa dissolved the state executive council on Wednesday.
In a statement issued by the chief press secretary to the governor, Ebenezer Adeniyan, the name of the new deputy governor has been transmitted to the state house of assembly for approval.
“His nomination will be announced by the House of Assembly later today,” the statement read.
Adelami, who hails from Owo local government area of the state, retired from the national assembly in 2018 after 35 years of service.
He holds a bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of Lagos and a master’s degree in public administration from Obafemi Awolowo University.
He is also a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and contested for the party’s governorship ticket in the 2020 primary election but lost to the late Rotimi Akeredolu, who was then the incumbent governor.
