Aloy Ejimakor, lead counsel for Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), has issued a stern warning to Chief Bola Ahmed Tinubu regarding the continued detention of Kanu.
Ejimakor cautioned that Nigeria’s economic situation will worsen as long as Kanu remains in detention.
In a post on X, Ejimakor urged Tinubu to consider the implications of Kanu’s ongoing imprisonment.
He articulated, “Dear Tinubu: It can only get worse. For as long as you continue to sanction the unlawful detention of #MNK, Nigeria will continue to plunge into a socio-economic abyss. If in doubt, watch and see what shall become of your regime! Never say you were not warned,” he added.
Kanu has been detained since June 2021 after being extradited from Kenya to Nigeria.
Despite several court rulings ordering his release, the Nigerian government has yet to comply, and Kanu remains in the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS).
The continued detention has coincided with worsening economic conditions in Nigeria, marked by widespread hardship and a recent 10-day nationwide protest, with another phase planned for October 1.
