Newborn Baby Found Abandoned in Polythene Bag

A newborn baby boy, just a day old, was discovered abandoned in a plastic bag on Alhaji Masha Road in the Surulere area of Lagos State.

It was reported that an unidentified social worker affiliated with a hospital in Surulere stumbled upon the infant’s cries while on her way to another location. Investigating the source of the sound, she found the baby boy inside a polythene bag.

The social worker rushed the newborn to Randle General Hospital for immediate medical attention.

Fortunately, the baby is said to be responding well to treatment.

Authorities, including the Divisional Police Officer and members of the family support unit, visited the scene to investigate the incident.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the incident.

He said, “The case of the day-old baby abandoned by unknown persons in a polythene bag was reported at the Surulere Division on April 15, 2024, around 1:40pm, by the social worker.

“The baby has been rescued and is responding to treatment. The Divisional Police Officer and a team from the family support unit visited the scene of the incident. The investigation is in progress.”
