The Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) Kaduna has named Lt. Col. Abubakar-Surajo Imam as first Professor from serving personnel in the history of the Nigerian Army.
Imam has achieved the historic milestone of being the first-ever Professor of Mechatronics Engineering within the Nigerian Army to attain the rank.
Brig.-Gen. AM Tukur, the Registrar of the Academy, officially disclosed this promotion in a statement issued in Kaduna on Friday.
The announcement clarified that the promotion, endorsed during the NDA Council Meeting in September, became effective from October 1, 2023.
The registrar highlighted that the council’s decision reflects their confidence in and acknowledgement of Imam’s significant contributions to the Department of Mechatronics Engineering at the Academy.

He emphasised that the new professor has consistently delivered exemplary services, maintaining the high standards of excellence expected in his field.
“This recognition not only honours Professor Imam but also highlights the commitment of the Nigerian Defence Academy to acknowledging and rewarding outstanding contributions within its academic community,” he added.
