Davido Commits N300 Million to Orphanages Amidst National Hardship

Nigerian Afrobeat sensation, David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has declared his intent to donate a substantial sum of N300 million to orphanages across Nigeria this year.

In the face of widespread grievances over soaring living costs, food inflation, and prevailing hardships, Davido announced the philanthropic initiative via a post on X on Tuesday.

The charitable endeavor will be organized through Davido’s foundation, maintaining a tradition he initiated several years ago as part of his annual contribution to the nation. The singer assured that further details regarding the disbursement of the funds would be disclosed soon.

He stated, “I and my foundation pledge the sum of 300 million Naira to orphanages around Nigeria … as my yearly contribution to the Nation ❤️ .. details of disbursement tomorrow 🇳🇬.”

Recall, this isn’t the first time Davido has demonstrated his commitment to charitable causes. In 2023, he distributed N237 million to 424 orphanages, following a prior disbursement of N250 million to 292 Nigerian orphanages 16 months earlier.

The singer’s philanthropic efforts gained significant momentum in November 2021 when, initially a jest, his challenge to colleagues resulted in a remarkable N200 million fundraiser within 78 hours.

Originally earmarked for clearing his new Rolls Royce from the Lagos port, Davido redirected the funds to orphanages across the country. A five-person committee, chaired by Titi Adebayo, oversaw the disbursement, and the singer subsequently published a list of orphanages benefiting from the generous contributions.
