Zamfara: Don’t Spare Anybody Involved in Kidnapping, Banditry — Group Begs Police, Gov Lawal

Zamfara North Progressive Movement has expressed deep concern over the escalating incidents of armed banditry, senseless killings, and ransom kidnappings in Zamfara State.

In a statement issued by Ahmed Abubakar Birane, Chairman of the Zamfara North Progressive Movement, urgent action was urged from the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) of the Police Command to swiftly investigate and prosecute suspects involved in these heinous crimes.

The group highlighted the prolonged detention and subsequent release of a District Head, Ibrahim Sarkin Fada Kasuwar Daji, who was held captive for over six months by armed bandits until a ransom was paid by his son, Anas Ibrahim S/Fada, a former State House of Assembly member.

The delay in prosecuting those implicated in this abduction, despite the arrest of a suspected bandit who disclosed accomplices during interrogation, has raised significant concerns among the populace.

Recent attacks in Kasuwar Daji town, including the abduction of prominent figures such as the State Financial Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and a former State Chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), have further underscored the urgency for decisive action.

The group emphasized the need for impartial investigation, regardless of the political affiliations of the suspects, and called for the revocation of bail granted to any individuals implicated in kidnapping until investigations are completed.

The group stated, “We call on Police authorities not to spare anybody found wanting in the course of investigation no matter how highly placed.

“We demand the revocation of the bail granted to the member State House of Assembly until investigation is completed.

“Banditry and kidnapping are serious offences. It is inappropriate to release anybody allegedly involved in kidnapping because of his political affiliation.

“We also appeal to Governor Dauda Lawal and the Inspector General of Police to wade into the matter and ensure that the perpetrators of this crime should face the full weight of the law.

“The good people of Zamfara State want peace and security to enable them to continue their lawful business.

“As a progressive movement, we demand justice and safety of citizens in Zamfara State. We support the government and security agents in the fight against banditry, insurgency, terrorism and kidnapping for ransom or politics,’ the group stressed.
