FACT CHECK: Did Peter Obi Endorse the Abure-led NWC?

A viral post on social media claims that Peter Obi, the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), has endorsed the Julius Abure-led National Working Committee amid the political wrangling in the party.

The post reads, “His Excellency @PeterObi endorses Barr. Julius Abure led newly elected Labour Party National Working Committee (NWC), pays solidarity visit at the party National Headquarters today.”

Currently, the post has garnered over 1,000 views, 700 likes, and 200 comments, all in reaction to the alleged endorsement.

Verification:

A search through Peter Obi’s verified social media handles revealed no affiliations with Abure-led NWC.

Another look at his X-profile, the medium where the alleged endorsement emanated from, revealed that his last post was not in any way related to Labour Party affairs.

Upon further investigation, the +3-minute video clip did not endorse the Abure-led NWC as widely circulated by the mainstream media and some sections of social media.

Verdict:

The tweet alleging that Obi endorsed the Abure-led NWC is misleading and should be disregarded.
