Gunmen Kill Two Policemen, Injure One in Ebonyi

Two policemen were killed and one was injured by unknown gunmen who attacked them at Nwofe, a sub-urb of Abakaliki, on Friday morning.

The police spokesperson in Ebonyi State, SP Onome Onovwakpoyeya, confirmed the incident in a statement. He said the victims were part of a patrol team that was on surveillance in the area.

According to the statement, the gunmen used a tinted Highlander vehicle with an unknown registration number to launch the attack on the police operatives around 8:30 am.

The statement read, “Two of the operatives were fatally wounded, while one is currently receiving medical treatment at the hospital. The state Commissioner, Augustina Ogbodo, on receiving the distress call immediately dispatched tactical teams to the scene. They swung into action by giving the hoodlums a hot chase, but the hoodlums escaped.

The Commissioner of Police also visited the scene of the incident with her management team for an on-the-spot assessment. She is using this medium to call on well-meaning individuals of the state to avail the command useful information that can lead to the arrest of the fleeing hoodlums while assuring them of round the clock visibility patrol of the state.”

The police spokesperson did not disclose the identities of the slain policemen or the motive behind the attack by the Gunmen . He said the police command was working hard to track down the perpetrators and bring them to justice.
