A staff of the Cross River Ministry of Education was shot and robbed by two gunmen on Wednesday afternoon in Calabar, the state capital. The incident occurred at the old Government Secretariat near Government House, where the victim works as an accountant.
According to eyewitnesses, the gunmen had followed the accountant from a bank where he had withdrawn some money. They then attacked him at his office complex, shooting him in the thigh and snatching his bag containing the money.
The police spokesperson, Irene Ugbo, confirmed the incident and said that the accountant was rushed to the Naval Referral Hospital for treatment. She also said that the police were on the trail of the suspects and vowed to bring them to justice.

She condemned the robbery and urged the public to be vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the police. She also assured the residents that the police were working hard to curb the recent surge in crime in the city.
