Residents of Kulanla Odomoola in Ogun State were left in shock on Saturday after a suspected human parts trafficker, identified simply as Gani, confessed to making a living from selling human body parts for the past decade.
Gani was arrested by troops of the 81 Division of the Nigerian Army, operating under the 35 Artillery Brigade, while reportedly on his way to deliver a body part to a prospective buyer.
His arrest was made during a routine patrol in the area, preventing what could have been a near-lynching by an angry mob who had accosted him.

In his confessional statement, Gani openly admitted to his gruesome trade, revealing that he sourced the human parts mainly from cemeteries and abandoned corpses.

“I have been surviving on selling human parts for the last 10 years,” he confessed.
“I dig up most of the parts I sell from newly dug graves in cemeteries while I get others from corpses abandoned by the roadsides.”
“The suspect’s confession, made in the presence of soldiers and residents, sent waves of anger and horror through the community, many of whom demanded swift justice.
Lieutenant Colonel Olabisi Olalekan Ayeni, Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, 81 Division Nigerian Army, confirmed the arrest in a statement on Sunday.
He explained that the troops intervened just in time to prevent the mob from taking the law into their own hands.
“The troops rescued the suspect from an angry mob who attempted to lynch him,” Ayeni stated.
