Olatunbosun Oyintiloye, a prominent member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State, has called upon Chief Bola Ahmed Tinubu to intervene in the pricing of diesel produced by the Dangote Petroleum Refinery.
Speaking to journalists in Osogbo on Sunday, Oyintiloye expressed concern over the current pump price of N1,225 per litre, deeming it excessive.
Oyintiloye emphasized the need for a significant disparity between the pump price of imported diesel and that of domestically refined diesel. He asserted that the operation of the Dangote refinery should lead to a reduction in petroleum product prices, rather than an increase.
Citing the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria’s claim that the landing cost of diesel is N1,250 per litre due to the appreciation of the Naira against the dollar, Oyintiloye underscored the necessity for Tinubu’s intervention to regulate the pump price of locally refined diesel.
As a former lawmaker, Oyintiloye pointed out that since the product was being produced locally without costs associated with the importation of the commodity into Nigeria, the price should be cheaper than what is being imported.
“There is no doubt that Nigerians are happy with the commencement of the operation of the Dangote Refinery in the country.
“We commend Alhaji Aliko Dangote for the project. It is a huge one for the benefit of our economy,” he added.
