Kenya mourns the loss of nine individuals, including prominent military figures, in a devastating helicopter crash. Among the deceased is General Francis Ogolla, the esteemed Chief of Defence for Kenya, along with eight other senior officers. President William Ruto conveyed the heartbreaking news, confirming the tragic outcome of the helicopter crash. He expressed deep sorrow, emphasizing the significance of the loss, stating, “Our motherland has lost one of her most valiant generals.” The demise of General Ogolla, in particular, has left a profound void, with President Ruto lamenting, “The demise of General Ogolla is a painful loss to me.”
During a press briefing, President Ruto extended heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased, acknowledging the gravity of the situation as he termed it a “tragic moment” for the nation.

General Ogolla, who previously led the Kenyan Air Force and served as deputy military chief, was appointed to the prestigious role of Chief of Defence by President Ruto last year. Despite past allegations, President Ruto recognized General Ogolla’s unparalleled qualifications for the position, stating, “He was the most qualified person for the job.”
