Justice Joy Unwana, a judge at Oron High Court in Akwa Ibom State, and her driver, who were abducted by gunmen, have been successfully regained their freedom.

The confirmation of their release came from Ini Ememobong, the information commissioner, in an official statement issued on Saturday.

The abduction took place as Justice Unwana and her driver were returning from a court session, sparking widespread concern and protests by various branches of the Nigerian Bar Association. This unrest led to the shutdown of court proceedings, particularly in Oron, where Justice Unwana serves as a judge.

Governor Umo Eno, upon receiving the freed judge, expressed a firm resolve and assured residents of Akwa Ibom that those responsible for the abduction will face the full force of the law.

Justice Unwana, in expressing her gratitude, shared the harrowing experience she endured while in captivity and offered prayers that no one else should face such a traumatic ordeal.

The governor, acknowledged the Ministry of Internal Security for their strategic coordination and use of local intelligence in addressing security issues, emphasizing the government’s commitment to ensuring the safety of its residents.
