Kidnappers Free Nasarawa State Varsity Lecturer

The kidnappers of Dr. Comfort Adokwe, a lecturer at Nasarawa State University, have freed her.

Dr. Adokwe, a deputy director of gender studies at the university and a lecturer in the faculty of administration, was kidnapped on Sunday night from her home in Angwan Jaba in Keffi.

According to reports, the neighbourhood was terrorized by the gunmen’s intermittent firing during the kidnapping.

At first, the kidnappers wanted N100 million as ransom, and in response, the family paid an undisclosed sum to gain her freedom.

According to Daily Post, a call to Dr. Adokwe’s brother confirmed that she was released around 8:30 and was transferred to an unidentified hospital for a check-up.

She has reportedly reunited with her spouse and daughter and is doing well.

This tragedy occurs just two weeks after four other varsity students and the Deputy Vice Chancellor (DVC) of Nasarawa State University Keffi (NSUK) were abducted.

Government intervention has been called for as a result of the repeated kidnappings, which have sparked worries about local security.
