Kano: “I didn’t Reach Agreement with Anybody,” Kwankwaso Denies Alleged Deal with Tinubu Prior S’Court Verdict

The presidential candidate of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has denied allegations of having pre-arranged agreements with Bola Ahmed Tinubu concerning the outcome of the Supreme Court’s decision on the Kano State governorship election.

In an interview with BBC Hausa, Kwankwaso dismissed the claims and shared his perspective on recent legal developments.

The Supreme Court, on Friday, affirmed Abba Kabir Yusuf, the NNPP candidate, as the duly elected governor of Kano State, bringing an end to a series of litigations.

Reflecting on the political landscape, Kwankwaso emphasised the importance of lessons learned from the Supreme Court’s decision.

He acknowledged his relationship with Tinubu, recounting their shared political journey from the Social Democratic Party (SDP) to the founding of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Despite any perceived differences, Kwankwaso highlighted that he and Tinubu had actively participated in political struggles together.

Debunking rumors of pre-existing agreements, Kwankwaso stated, “To the best of my knowledge, I have not reached an agreement with anybody.”

However, he stressed the need for collaboration between political parties when necessary, adding,, “We have our party; they have theirs. We will work together where necessary. On the issue of joining the government, only time can tell.”

Regarding the newly affirmed governor, Kabir Yusuf, Kwankwaso asserted that his role would be advisory rather than authoritative.

“Kabir Yusuf is the governor. We can only advise. I can’t rule over him even if he were a biological son. I have given him advice even before the government came in,” Kwankwaso disclosed.
