A shop owner has alleged that officials of the Lagos State Government selectively demolished his business premises, claiming that he was the only Igbo trader in the area and the only one affected by the operation.
In a video that has gone viral on social media, the man who is not yet identified could be seen standing beside the demolished structure while accusing the authorities of targeting him unjustly.
“I am the only Igbo shop owner here, and it is only my shop that was demolished by the Lagos State Government. They left every other shop and destroyed only mine,” he said in the footage, visibly distressed.

He alleged that no prior notice was issued before the demolition exercise, adding that his goods and equipment were still inside the shop at the time it was pulled down.
Eyewitnesses in the video voiced shock over the development, with some questioning why other shops in the same line were untouched.
As of the time of filing this report, Lagos State Government officials have not issued a statement regarding the specific allegation in the video.

Lagos State has recently intensified demolition exercises across various parts of the state, citing urban renewal, environmental compliance, and removal of illegal structures as reasons. Areas such as Oworonshoki, Costain, and parts of FESTAC Town have been affected, with several business owners alleging that they were not issued proper notices before the demolitions.
Some civil rights groups and legal practitioners have raised concerns over alleged selective enforcement and the humanitarian impact of the operations, calling for transparency, adherence to due process, and protection of citizens’ rights.
