The Lagos State Governorship Election Tribunal has given its final verdict on the disqualification suit against Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
The Tribunal dismissed the petition brought by Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour and the Labour Party (LP), as well as the petition conveyed by Olajide Adediran, popularly known as Jandor from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
Both gubernatorial candidates were challenging the victory of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu in the March 18 poll.
The Tribunal’s verdict was given on Monday, September 25. The Lagos State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal reaffirmed the victory of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, affirming his position as the duly elected governor of Lagos State.
The tribunal also removed the names of the Labour Party and its candidate from the list of respondents, stating that a petition is intended to be filed between the election winner and loser, not between two losers.
The tribunal further removed from its records all exhibits presented as evidence by Mr Rhodes-Vivour and the LP in Jandor’s petition, stating that they cannot later challenge any part of the judgment in Jandor’s petition or they would be considered an intrusive meddler.
This ruling is part of the judgment being delivered in Jandor’s petition. Justice Arum Ashom, the tribunal’s chairman, announced earlier on Monday that the judgment on the petition of Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, the Labour Party’s gubernatorial candidate, would be delivered subsequently. Justice Igho Braimoh is the third judge on the panel.
