A blaze tore through makeshift structures in the Ikate-Elegushi area of Lekki, Lagos State, on Sunday night, leaving destruction in its wake. The incident, which occurred around the vicinity of Star Road, by Horizon Heights, was confirmed by Margaret Adeseye, Director of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service.
Adeseye disclosed that the fire engulfed residential makeshift structures, spanning approximately an acre of land. “Efforts by firefighters prevented its spread to upscale properties,” she stated. The inferno posed a severe challenge due to the involvement of 65 camp gas canisters, heightening the risk of explosions. However, no casualties were reported.

Investigations revealed the fire originated from one of the rooms within shanties behind an estate, before spreading to nearby structures. A collaborative effort involving the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, estate fire department, and the Nigerian Police Force ensured a rapid and coordinated response, averting loss of life or injuries.
The swift action of emergency responders highlights the importance of preparedness in mitigating such disasters, emphasizing the critical role of coordinated efforts in crisis management.
