Nigerian Youths Schedule Feb. 25 as National Prayer Day for INEC Chairman, Yakubu Mahmood

Bye-election: Vote not captured by BVAS will not count — INEC

A group of Nigerian youths have organized a national prayer day to invoke a curse on the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof Mahmoud Yakubu, whom they accused of manipulating the 2023 presidential election in favour of Bola Tinubu.

The prayer day, which is scheduled for 25 February 2024, is titled: “Nigerian Youths National Prayer Day, Curse Be Unto Mahmoud Yakubu.”

The youths said they were motivated by the suffering and hardship that Nigerians have been experiencing under the Tinubu-led administration, which they described as “anti-people’s policies.”

The youths alleged that Yakubu had compromised the integrity and credibility of the 2023 presidential election by accepting bribes from Tinubu and his allies to declare him the winner at an unusual time of the night, despite the protests and petitions from the opposition parties and civil society groups.

The election result was challenged in court by the main opposition candidates, Peter Obi of Labour Party (LP) and Atiku Abubakar of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), who claimed that they had won the majority of the votes and that there were widespread irregularities and malpractices in the conduct of the election.

However, the Supreme Court dismissed their cases and upheld Tinubu’s victory, sparking outrage and disappointment among many Nigerians.

The youths said they hoped that their prayer would bring divine justice and retribution to Yakubu and his collaborators, and that God would intervene to save Nigeria from the tyranny and corruption of Tinubu’s regime.
