A 21-year-old man, Johnson Edosa, has been arrested by the police for allegedly killing his neighbour, Promise, 23, over a disagreement about food in Benin City, Edo State.
According to the police, the suspect and the victim lived in the same house on East Circular Road and had an argument over food in the daytime. The suspect then attacked the victim in the night while he was asleep and slit his throat with a knife.
The suspect’s mother, who was aware of the crime, helped him to bury the victim in a shallow grave inside the house, near his father’s grave.
The Edo State Police Command’s spokesperson, Chidi Nwabuzor, confirmed the incident and said that the Divisional Police Officer of St Saviour received information about the murder case and arrested the suspect and his mother.

He said that the man confessed to the crime and claimed that he was insane. He also said that the police have exhumed the victim’s body and taken it to the Central Hospital for autopsy.
The police spokesperson said that the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation and prosecution. He also warned the public to be wary of their neighbours and report any suspicious activities to the police.
