BREAKING: Meta Breaks Silence as Facebook, Instagram Experience Worldwide Shutdown

Meta, the parent company of Facebook and Instagram has responded to the global shutdown affecting its social media platforms leaving millions perplexed and disconnected on Tuesday, March 5, 2024.

Users worldwide faced difficulties connecting with friends and customers as Facebook, Instagram, and Messenger experienced downtime, beginning around 3:45 pm Nigerian time.

Meta’s spokesperson, Andy Stone, acknowledged the issue in a post on X, stating, “We’re aware people are having trouble accessing our services. We are working on this now.” The outage left millions confused and unable to engage with the platforms.

As the situation unfolded, Downdetector reported around 200 outages for WhatsApp, another platform owned by Meta. Downdetector tracks service outages by compiling status reports from various sources, including user submissions.
