Nigerian Offers $20,000 Reward for Anyone, Who Can Show 20 Millennium Schools Tinubu Promised to Build In Lagos

In response to a nationwide challenge initiated by Nigerians under the hashtag #TinubuLagosSchoolSeries, a well-meaning Nigerian has pledged a substantial $20,000 reward for anyone who can identify the 20 Millennium Schools promised by former Lagos State Governor, Chief Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

The promise dates back to 2001 when Tinubu, during his tenure as governor, vowed to construct model “millennium” secondary schools in each of the 20 local councils of the state. This pledge stirred excitement among residents, who anticipated improved learning environments and increased student capacity.

However, the reality fell short of expectations. By the end of Tinubu’s first term, only four Millennium Schools had been erected, three of which were named after notable individuals from the Southwest region.

These schools included the Abibatu Magaji Senior Secondary School in Agege, commissioned in March 2002, along with the Bola Ige Millennium Senior Secondary School in Ajeromi-Ifelodun, the Millennium Senior Secondary School in Egbeda, and the Babs Fafunwa Millennium Secondary School in Ojudu.

Disappointingly, Tinubu’s second term saw no additional Millennium Schools constructed, leaving the total count at a mere four by the end of his tenure in 2007.

Compounding the issue, reports indicate that some of these schools have fallen into a state of disrepair, with no signs of renovation.

The call for the identification of these promised schools underscores a growing concern among Nigerians regarding unfulfilled political promises and the state of public education infrastructure.
