A tragic incident occurred on Wednesday night as a National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member serving in Adamawa State, identified as Samuel, collapsed and passed away while watching Nigeria’s Super Eagles face off against South Africa in a gripping semi-final match of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2023.

The intense game eventually culminated in a penalty shootout. Mr. Jingi Dennis, the NYSC Coordinator in Adamawa State, confirmed the unfortunate event, stating that Samuel was swiftly rushed to Numan General Hospital by his colleagues but could not be revived.

Dennis recounted, “I received the news of his death last night. I hope to have more details today. According to his colleagues who went with him to watch the match, the late corps member expressed his dislike for penalty shootouts. He then bowed his head and suddenly collapsed. He was confirmed dead at the General Hospital in Numan by the doctor.”

According to a family source, Ojougboh collapsed while watching the match and subsequently passed away. The source further stated that his remains had been taken to the mortuary.
