Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State has reaffirmed his determination to retain his position, stating that there is presently no vacancy in the Alagbaka government house.
Following his screening by a 5-man committee appointed by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Governor Aiyedatiwa urged his opponents to redirect their efforts towards grassroots engagement rather than attempting to undermine his candidacy.
In his remarks to journalists, Governor Aiyedatiwa advised his rivals to focus on fieldwork, emphasizing the need to respect the incumbent’s position.
He highlighted his administration’s accomplishments and the support garnered from various segments of the populace, attributing his decision to seek reelection to the desires and aspirations of the people.
He stated, “I should just advise them to repent and try to go to the field and work. If they are interested in the seat and the seat is not vacant, that is why they’re trying to do all that they are doing.
“You see, we are all indigenes of Ondo state, and we are all qualified to run to be the Governor of Ondo state, but there is a sitting Governor. I have the structures, the people, and the competence.
“Within the few months that I assumed office, they have seen clearly that this is the best man for the job. Yes, because of the peace in the state and some of the programmes that have been rolled out to the people.
“In fact, like I said the other time, my coming out to continue as Governor of Ondo state wasn’t borne out of my own ambition or desire but because of the yearnings and aspirations of the people.
“The endorsement of the traditional rulers, the students, artisans, everybody; the community leaders, even the civil servants, everybody is happy with the current state (of affairs); peace and security for the day people and they are going about their businesses without fear,” he concluded.
