Buba Galadima, chieftain of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), has stated that it is impossible for the entire northern region of Nigeria to unite behind a single presidential candidate in the 2027 election. Galadima shared his views in an interview with Sun, highlighting the diverse nature of democratic choices.
Galadima, who once served as the National Secretary of the defunct Congress for Progressive Change (CPC), emphasized that in a democracy like Nigeria, voters have the freedom to choose their preferred candidates. When asked if the northern region would back either Atiku Abubakar, the former presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), or Rabiu Kwankwaso, the NNPP candidate, Galadima was clear in his response.
“We are not in the church; we are not in the mosque. Why should we speak with one voice?” Galadima questioned. “That is democracy. If you bring three people together, everybody has got a different way of thinking on how to solve a certain problem.”

Galadima also addressed the NNPP’s performance in the 2023 general elections. He alleged that the party’s votes were significantly reduced. “NNPP is doing very well because after the elections, we discovered that our votes were suppressed. Over five million of our votes were suppressed,” he claimed.
