Apostle Chibuzor Gift Chinyere, the General Overseer of the Omega Power Ministry (OPM), has vowed not to renew his DStv subscription due to the price hike announced by Multichoice Nigeria for its DStv and GOtv services.
The company’s announcement earlier this week detailed substantial increases in subscription fees, slated to take effect from May 1.
Under the revised pricing model, subscribers to the DStv Premium package will encounter a fee hike to N37,000 from the current N29,500. Compact+ subscribers will also experience an increase, with fees rising to N25,000 from N19,800.
Similarly, Compact package subscribers will see their costs climb to N15,700 from N12,500. Furthermore, subscribers to the Confam, Yanga, and Padi packages will face higher expenses, with new fees set at N9,300, N5,100, and N3,600 respectively, up from N7,400, N4,200, and N2,950.
The escalation in subscription rates has ignited widespread discontent among customers already grappling with economic difficulties. In response to the price surge, Apostle Chibuzor Gift Chinyere took to his official Facebook page on Friday to publicly declare that he would not renew his subscription until the prices are revised downwards.
This stand of solidarity with affected individuals underscores the growing frustration among subscribers and emphasizes the importance of companies considering the financial constraints confronting their clientele, especially during challenging economic times.
The post reads, “Millions of Nigerians can no longer meet up with the current price of DStv/GOLD TV subscription because of the current economic reality in Nigeria.
“So as my current subscription is expiring, I shall not be renewing my DSTV subscription until DSTV reduces the price.
“Starting from today I will be searching for alternatives that I will be watching because basically it is majorly news and OPM TV which is a 24-hour television station I watch when I am chanced.
“But DSTV, NO to the renewal of subscription until prices are reviewed downwards”.
