Nurse Burns 13-Year-Old Househelp with Hot Iron After Allegedly Starving Him, Claims It Was Discipline for Stealing

A 38-year-old nurse, identified as Amarachukwu Happiness Nzekwe, has been arrested in Anambra State for allegedly burning her 13-year-old househelp with a hot iron as a form of discipline.

Nzekwe, who hails from Ezinifitte in Aguata Local Government Area, admitted to the act during an interrogation by officials of the Anambra State Ministry of Women’s Affairs and Social Welfare, led by Commissioner Ify Obinabo.

The incident reportedly occurred after Nzekwe accused the boy, who is her nephew, of stealing her money.

In her confession, Nzekwe revealed that she placed the iron on a stove to heat it before pressing it against the boy’s back when he refused to confess to the alleged theft.

She told the commissioner: “All the suffering I have been going through because of this boy. I just had surgery, and I came back home and found money missing. I didn’t plug the iron into electricity, I just placed it on stove to discipline him,” she added.

Further allegations indicate that the boy was often locked up without food.

Commissioner Obinabo condemned the act and assured that Nzekwe would be prosecuted, emphasising that such behavior would not be tolerated in the state.

Nzekwe has since been handed over to the police for further investigation and prosecution.
