A mild drama unfolded in Umuahia on Saturday as Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, made an unexpected appearance at the 76th birthday celebration and grand reception for former Senate President, Adolphus Wabara.
The event, organized by the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), saw Governor Otti of the Labour Party (LP) arriving while the acting National Chairman of the PDP, Umar Damagun, was delivering his speech.
The presence of Otti caused a stir among the attendees, with some PDP members singing his praises and others expressing surprise.
Notably absent from the event was the immediate past governor of Abia, Okezie Ikpeazu, despite the celebration being for the PDP’s Board of Trustees Chairman.
In his address, Governor Otti emphasized his role as the governor for all Abia residents, regardless of political affiliation, and noted that the elections and related litigations were concluded.

He expressed regret over allegations that Abia was unsafe for visitors and thanked the PDP governors for ignoring the “fake security alert” to attend the event. He also praised Wabara, the celebrant, as a good man.
Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, also speaking at the event, lamented that the PDP now controls only one state in the South-East and urged party members to work towards reclaiming their lost states. Other PDP governors present included Peter Mbah of Enugu, Bala Mohammed of Bauchi, and Godwin Obaseki of Edo.
