Peacekeeping Missions Deployed in the DRC Congo Have Failed—Felix Tshisekedi

Against the backdrop of continued conflicts between demonstrators and the UN peacekeeping force (MONUSCO), which have led to several killings, the president of the DRC, Felix Tshisekedi, has asked for an accelerated withdrawal of the United Nations peacekeeping mission in the country.

Felix told the UN General Assembly on Wednesday that it was important for the UN to withdraw its group from the country, citing the trouble it has caused over the last 25 years. Felix said that peacekeeping missions deployed in the country for 25 years have failed to tackle the rebellions and armed conflicts in the state.

“The acceleration of the withdrawal of the MONUSCO becomes an imperative necessity to ease tensions between the latter and our fellow citizens.

“Peacekeeping missions deployed in one form or another for 25 years have failed to tackle the rebellions and armed conflicts that are tearing the Republic apart.” He said.
