The widely believed winner of the 2023 Presidential Election and the candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, has congratulated Victor Osimhen and Asisat Oshoala for their remarkable achievements as the African Players of the Year in the Men and Women categories, respectively.

In recent accolades, Victor Osimhen, the prolific forward for both the Super Eagles and Napoli, was bestowed with the prestigious title of the 2023 CAF African Player of the Year.

Simultaneously, the iconic Nigerian figure, Asisat Oshoala, clinched the Women’s Player of the Year for an unprecedented sixth time.

Peter Obi also congratulated Nadozie Chiamaka, who won the 2023 CAF Women’s Goalkeeper of the Year Award, and the Nigerian female football team, the Super Falcons, for winning the 2023 CAF award for the National Team of the Year.

In a tweet earlier today, Peter Obi expressed his admiration for the unwavering spirit exhibited by this dynamic Nigerian duo, who, in the face of numerous challenges, continued to elevate the nation’s flag on the international stage.

Peter Obi lauded their resilience and dedication, emphasizing the significance of their achievements in the realm of African football.

“I like to join all other sports lovers in the country to sincerely congratulate the Nigerian duo of @victorosimhen9 and @AsisatOshoala for emerging African Players of the Year in the Men and Women categories, respectively this year.

“While Osimhen has continued to trail the blaze in football even with his recent Italian Footballers’ Association (AIC) Player of the Year award for the 2022–23 Serie A season, Oshoala has now made history as the first woman to win the award for a record six times.

“I also celebrate @Nadoziechiamaka, who won the 2023 CAF Women’s Goalkeeper of the Year Award, and our Nigerian female football team, Super Falcons, who won the 2023 CAF award for the National Team of the Year
