‘Some Nigerian Producers Use Only 10% of $1.5 Million from Streaming Platforms on Movies; Spend Most on Personal Cars, Houses’— Basketmouth Unveils Why Epic Movies Look Like Stage Plays

Nigerian comedian Bright Okpocha, popularly known as Basketmouth, has revealed why epic movies streamed online often don’t meet expectations in terms of quality..

Basketmouth made this known in an interview program ‘Morning Show’ on Arise TV .

He disclosed that most producers of live streamed movies don’t give out quality movies as they only use 10% of the large sum they are being given to make a movie.

Basketmouth added that a larger percent goes into buying cars and houses while the result of supposed epic movie end up looking like a stage play.

According to Basketmouth, the streaming platform has tried curtailing the avarice of the producers by paying the actors and actress directly but the producers will go behind their backs to demand half of the payment from them.

His words: “There was a lot of money in the movie industry, there was a lot of money when the streaming platforms came in; they gave money to these producers, and I’ll tell you point blank that these producers will take the money, N1.5 million dollars or whatever they gave them, and use about 10% of that money to make the movie.”

“They’re listening, they cannot deny it. I cannot call names, but you know yourselves. I’m not generalizing, I’m not saying all of them; I’m saying most of them, maybe 70% or even more.”

“Even to the point where the streaming platforms stepped in and said, ‘No, we’re going to be paying the actors directly,’ these guys would still go behind them and tell the actors to pay half of that money back to them.”

“You can verify this information if you’re with them. So when they do that and you expect your movie to be released, it can’t. It’s impossible. Once you’re given N1.5 million dollars to make a movie, at least use everything. That’s where you get quality, but these guys will just buy houses, buy cars.”

“It will show, and that’s why when you see our epic movies, it looks like a stage play. You know what I’m saying, horses that are lean, horses that cough,” he added.
