The Professional Game Match Officials Limited (PGMOL) has suspended referee David Coote following the emergence of a leaked video in which Coote used derogatory language about Liverpool.
In the leaked video, he described Liverpool as sh*t and insulted the club’s former manager, Jurgen Klopp.
In a statement released on Monday, PGMOL confirmed that Coote was suspended with immediate effect and pending a full investigation.
PGMOL stated, “David has been suspended with immediate effect pending a full investigation.
“PGMOL will be making no further comment until that process is complete,” the statement added.
Coote recently served as the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) for Liverpool’s contentious 1-1 draw against Arsenal at Anfield in December 2023.
During that match, a potential handball by Arsenal’s Martin Odegaard appeared to prevent Mohamed Salah from advancing into the penalty area, adding to the game’s controversy.
Further details on the investigation are expected as the PGMOL review continues.
