JUST IN: Wike vs Fubara: Rivers Finance Commissioner Kamalu Resigns

Isaac Kamalu has stepped down from his position as Commissioner of Finance in River State.

This comes after Governor Simi Fubara reassigned him to the Ministry of Employment Generation and Economic Empowerment.

Kamalu, formerly the commissioner for Budget and Economics during the tenure of former Governor Nyesom Wike and current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, conveyed his resignation in a letter addressed to Governor Fubara and the Secretary to the Government, Tammy Danagogo, on Tuesday.

In the letter, he alleged that Governor Fubara misrepresented the internally generated revenue of Rivers State.

“In view of the above, I find it difficult to accept the redeployment; I do not accept it. I reject it and convey my immediate resignation as Commissioner and Member of the River State Executive Council with effect from the date of this letter”, the letter reads.

Earlier, Zacchaeus Adangor, Commissioner for Justice and Attorney-General of the State, had resigned, citing a similar issue.

These events unfolded several months following President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s mediation of a peace agreement between Fubara and Wike amidst an escalating political standoff between them.

It’s worth noting that during the escalation of tensions between Fubara and Wike, Kamalu had previously resigned as commissioner but was subsequently reinstated in accordance with the terms of the peace agreement.
