Chief Bola Ahmed Tinubu has conferred national honours on key political and judicial figures in Nigeria, including Senate President Godswill Akpabio and Chief Justice of the Federation Kudirat Kekere-Ekun. Both were awarded the Grand Commander of the Order of the Niger (GCON), one of Nigeria’s highest honours.
The announcement was made during Tinubu’s address to the nation on Tuesday to mark Nigeria’s Independence Day.
His words: “The Senate President and the Chief Justice of the Federation have been conferred with the honour of the Grand Commander of the Order of the Niger (GCON).”
Additionally, the Deputy Senate President, Barau Jibrin, and Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, received the Commander of the Order of the Federal Republic (CFR) honour.
Meanwhile, Benjamin Kalu, the Deputy Speaker of the House, was awarded the Commander of the Order of Niger (CON).
