Hardship: Tinubu Didn’t Create Nigeria’s Problems, He’s Doing His Best; Deserves Support to Finish Strong – Gov Eno

Pastor Umo Bassey Eno, Governor of Akwa Ibom State, on Tuesday stated that President Bola Tinubu is not responsible for Nigeria’s current economic difficulties and emphasized that the President merits national backing to guide the nation through challenging times.

Speaking with State House correspondents following a meeting with Vice President Kashim Shettima at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, Governor Eno described Tinubu’s first two years in office as “wonderful” and characterized by committed efforts to confront inherited issues.

He further noted, “President Tinubu didn’t create the problem we are in right now,” adding, “For me, I believe he is doing his best, and he should be supported to finish strong.”

Highlighting his administration’s progress, Eno pointed to advancements across vital sectors in Akwa Ibom State, including education, healthcare, road networks, and rural development.

He remarked, “When you come to Akwa Ibom, you’ll find we are working across the board — from schools to hospitals, roads, and markets. We are delivering tangible results.”

While outlining the trajectory of his administration, the governor mentioned that the initial phase concentrated on grassroots initiatives, whereas the next phase would emphasize extensive infrastructure projects aimed at transforming the state into a major economic and tourist center.

“We’re now moving into super infrastructure. We want to make Akwa Ibom a tourist destination — and we are well on our way,” he stated.

Governor Eno also commended the leadership legacy in the state, recognizing the impact of previous governors on Akwa Ibom’s sustained progress.

“Akwa Ibom has been blessed with visionary leaders — from Obong Victor Attah to Senator Godswill Akpabio, Chief Udom Emmanuel, and now myself. We have sustained a development trajectory that has set us apart,” he said.

Touching on youth development, the governor highlighted investments in skill-building, job creation, and entrepreneurship support.

“We’re training our young people, supporting SMEs, and have launched an employment portal to match job seekers with opportunities,” he said. “The goal is to rebuild the middle class and create sustainable livelihoods.”

He reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to inclusive development through collaborative efforts with the federal government and private sector.

“Our focus is to unlock Akwa Ibom’s full potential through collaboration and long-term planning,” he concluded
