Tragedy Strikes at Magboro Bus Stop As Man Dies in Auto Crash on Lagos-Ibadan Expressway

A yet-to-be-identified man has lost his life in a tragic accident that unfolded on Sunday at the Magboro Bus Stop along the bustling Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

The incident, which occurred at approximately 7:50 a.m., left seven other passengers injured.

According to reports gathered by PUNCH Metro, the crash involved two vehicles: a Mercedes-Benz ML350 bearing the registration plate AKD424HH and a Volkswagen commercial bus identified by the number plate KSF934YA.

Eyewitnesses on the scene, including Opeyemi Lateef, said the accident was triggered when the Mercedes-Benz ML350 collided with the stationary commercial bus, which was parked at the bus stop.

The driver of the Mercedes, attempting to avoid a road user, inadvertently caused the fatal collision.

Tragically, the man who lost his life in the incident remains unidentified at this time.

As investigations continue, authorities are working to ascertain the identities of all involved parties and determine the circumstances leading up to the accident.

The injured passengers were promptly rushed to nearby medical facilities for treatment.

Their conditions are currently being monitored, and further updates on their recovery are awaited.

“What happened was that the driver of this Benz tried to avoid hitting a road user who wanted to cross the road, which resulted in a loss of control, thereby colliding with the commercial bus while its driver was waiting for passengers at the bus stop,” she said.

Another anonymous eyewitness attributed the accident’s cause to the haphazard parking of commercial vehicles at the bus stop and excessive speeding.

Upon reaching out, the Public Relations Officer of the Federal Road Safety Corps in the Ogun State Sector Command, Florence Okpe, verified the accident and ascribed it to excessive speeding.

Okpe said, “I can confirm the accident, which happened at about 7.50 a.m. on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway at Magboro Bus Stop outward Lagos.

“Sixteen people, including eight males and eight females, were involved. Seven people were injured, and one person died.

“The vehicles involved are one Volkswagen yellow bus with number plate KSF934YA and one Mercedes Benz ML350 with number plate AKD424HH. The cause of the accident is speeding which led to a loss of control.”

She decried the indiscriminate parking of commercial vehicles on highways, describing the situation as the major cause of accidents at the Magboro Bus Stop.
