Tribunal Nullifies Chimaroke’s Petition and Upholds Kelvin Chukwu’s Victory

The petition filed by the PDP’s Chimaroke Nnamani against Senator Kelvin Chukwu of the Labour Party has been nullified by the National Election Tribunal in Enugu State.

The Enugu East Senatorial district election was won by Chukwu, who replaced his deceased brother, who was killed during the campaign ahead of the February 25, 2023, election.

In contrast to Chimaroke Nnamani, who received roughly 49,000 votes, Kelvin received over 69,000 votes in the election.

Chimaroke, not being satisfied with the outcome of the election, had petitioned the tribunal, claiming that there was election malpractice and that the whole election was marred and should be cancelled.

However, the judgement delivered on Wednesday by the tribunal, which consists of a 3-man panel led by Justice Nusirat Umar, nullified Chimaroke’s petition on the grounds that it lacked merit and was vague and incompetent.

Mr. Chukwu was awarded a cost of N500,000 along with the other petitioners, INEC and the Labour Party.
