Troost-Ekong Expresses Pride, Gratitude After AFCON Final Defeat

Nigeria’s captain and defender William Troost-Ekong has taken to Twitter to share his emotions after losing the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) final to Ivory Coast on Sunday night.

The Super Eagles were beaten 2-1 by the hosts in a thrilling match at the Stade Félix Houphouët-Boigny in Abidjan, despite taking the lead in the first half through Troost-Ekong’s header.

The former Watford star who moved to Greek side PAOK last summer, scored three goals and was named the Best Player of the Tournament.

Ekong posted a heartfelt message on his social media account, thanking the Nigerian fans for their support and congratulating Ivory Coast for their victory.

He wrote:
